Tell us your story?
The BB Group was formed in April 2017 by Ericka Hatfield, Shawanda Green, Lyndsay Christian and Joi Adams. We observed the need for women of color to connect and tap into a support system via real interaction in a safe space to build lasting relationships. This network serves as a resource and platform to uplift, encourage and support women in their professional development and entrepreneurial endeavors, while connecting them across various cities and industries. Our brunch is different from other events in that we offer every woman a chance to highlight her career or promote her business during round-robin style introductions. This allows for an enhanced networking experience, while at other events, you may only hear from the speakers.
Who or what inspires you?
The women in our lives that don’t get noticed or highlighted the way they should. Our mothers, friends, sisters, business partners, and daughters. Our goal is to not only build a digital platform through which our network can communicate with other like-minded professionals across the country to learn about job opportunities, events, and to support business endeavors and small businesses. But that serves as a way for us to celebrate our accomplishments, career ambitions, and businesses.
What was (is) the biggest challenge you’ve faced?
Funding resources and time. As all of us have full-time jobs in addition to our professional and service organizations we are affiliated with. Balancing our time and financial resources has been and will be our biggest challenge.
What does HerStory mean to you?
It means the journey that we as women have to take. Finding the balance between career, mental health, physical well-being, family, and faith.
